The Tri-County Women’s Centre is hosting an education session on community suicide awareness.
It will take place today from noon-1:30.
Also facilitating the program, the Tri-County CAST Coalition, CAST standing for Community Addressing Suicide Together.
Executive Director Bernadette MacDonald says it will be a comfortable environment to get information.
“To get tips on suicide prevention, and for participants to get the dialogue going and share comfortably in a friendly environment. This is an open session to get education and to find out about resources available.”
She says this is not intervention training, it is for those 16 years of age and older that have an interest in suicide prevention efforts.
MacDonald says it’s important to know what’s available through government and community resources.
She says the shame and silence that goes with suicide needs to be part of the community dialogue.
