A Yarmouth man is going door to door with a petition.
Rodney Crowe wants the town to make changes to its sewer by-law.
In March, Crowe’s sewer backed up into his basement.
He found out he is responsible to fix pipes that hook into the town’s sewer line.
In his case, the main line is located across the street.
Crowe says it’s not fair that he has to pay to have it fixed when the problem is on town property.
He says it will be an expensive process.
“I have to hire a flagging crew, and a paving crew to pave after the construction crew is done replacing the pipe. I’m waiting on quotes. I don’t have that kind of money, so I’m dealing with the banks.”
Council has committed to further examination of the sewer by-law.
Mayor Pam Mood told us back in March that taxpayers would be on the hook if the town made changes.
Crowe urges residents to get in touch with their local Councillor on the issue.
“The by-law to me is so unfair. It’s going to hurt the people that matter. The majority of us would get through it, but it’s going to be difficult. The next five years, I’ll have to pay off a loan to do this. It’s going to strap me quite badly.”
He will present the petition on May 18th.
