Three people are displaced after fire destroyed a home in Dayton this morning.
Yarmouth firefighters got the call around 3:30am to a residence on Maple Hill Lane.
Platoon Chief Hank Nickerson says the homeowner noticed smoke in the kitchen.
“Exiting the house, they saw a fire behind the refrigerator. We determined it was accidental.”
An excavator had to be brought in so firefighters could get at the flames.
The Port Maitland and Lake Vaughn Volunteer Fire Departments also responded.
Four tankers were shuttling water from Lake Milo to the scene.
One firefighter was taken to hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.
The Red Cross is assisting the family.
RCMP closed a section of Highway 1 for several hours, but that has since been re-opened.
