When will Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil call an election?
That is dominating talk heading into the spring sitting of the Nova Scotia Legislature tomorrow.
The Premier won’t tip his hand on when that might happen, but says he’s looking forward to the session.
McNeil was in Shelburne yesterday for an announcement on construction of a new collaborative medical clinic.
When asked about opposition criticism to numerous spending announcements, McNeil says working together with communities is key.
“I’m very proud of the work that the Municipality of Shelburne and the surrounding area has done. See what happens when you can work in cooperation? Unfortunately the opposition parties haven’t figured that out yet.”
McNeil says the budget’s release on Thursday will dominate much of the discussion.
He says they will look to pass the disabilities legislation on third and final reading, and a number of pieces of legislation will be introduced to ensure care is being provided to Nova Scotians.
Meanwhile, The Liberal MLA for Yarmouth says he’s ready for an election, whenever that may be.
Zach Churchill says the only person in the system that has the authority to make that call is Premier Stephen McNeil.
“I think there is a lot of anticipation, and a lot of speculation right now. I’m ready for whatever that decision is, as I’m sure all my colleagues are at this point. But we won’t know for sure until a decision is made.”
Churchill says the only poll that matters is the one at the end of the election, and no one in the party takes anything for granted.
Argyle-Barrington Progressive Conservative MLA Chris d’Entremont says social media can play a big factor in politics because everything is out there and criticisms can run even stronger.
d’Entremont says he can’t guess when an election will be called, but his party is ready.
