An Honorary Doctorate in Acadian Studies will be given out at Universite Sainte Anne’s convocation next month.
Dr. Barry Jean Ancelet, a French-speaking Cajun from Louisiana will attend the ceremony May 13th in Church Point.
The university says Dr. Ancelet is known for his contributions to the development of the Francophonie in North America, and strengthening ties between Louisiana and Nova Scotia.
U St. Anne’s Vice-Chancellor Allister Surette says Dr. Ancelet is a perfect choice.
“He’s presented hundreds of lectures, published numerous articles, authored books on various aspects of Louisiana’s Cajun and Creole cultures.”
Surette says Dr. Ancelet has been on the campus before.
“Mostly with our Acadian Centre and all the research he’s doing. He’s been working hard in the state of Louisiana to try and advance the French language.”
Dr. Ancelet is currently the principle researcher at the Louisiana Studies Center.
His alter ego, Jean Arceneaux, is a poet, playwright, songwriter and raconteur.
Surette says the Universite has ties to numerous organizations in Louisiana.
