The Yarmouth County Sports Council will host their first ever Sport Summit on April 29th.
It will take place at Yarmouth High School from 8am-4pm.
The council was brought together to help advocate for local sports, in turn attracting new events to the region.
Yarmouth Recreation Director Frank Grant says Yarmouth has become well known for hosting major sporting events.
“Whether it be Junior A hockey, or National Oldtimers Baseball. We have a speaker coming down to talk about the do’s and don’ts of hosting major events.”
Also at the summit: sessions on coaching, athletic performance and even social media.
Council Secretary Amanda Brewer says the summit will have ‘something for everyone’ involved in sports.
“Education is never a bad thing. If you can come out and get educated to help yourself become a better coach or a better athlete, it can take you further in what you’re trying to do for the community.”
Recruiting and retaining volunteers will also be discussed.
