A pilot-project aims to improve crosswalk safety in the Town of Digby.
Three crosswalks now have bright orange flags for users to carry, helping to increase visibility.
They are located at Water Street and Church Street, Warwick Street and Montague Row and Mount Street and Victoria Street.
The project is spearheaded by Special Constable Richard Parry, who says he’s seen some close calls over the years.
He says one crosswalk accident is too many.
“If we can save one person from being killed or injured in a crosswalk, I think the program has been a success. There are two containers, one on each side of the street, with some decals on it instructing how to use it and signifying the sponsoring bodies.”
Three organizations funded the crosswalk flag project, the King Solomon Lodge #54, Digby ATV Club and Digby and Area Lions Club.
The flags were installed on April 10th, and Parry says he’s heard nothing but positive comments.
He says they will review the program in the fall, and they hope to expand.
