A portion of Main Street has been closed to traffic for an extended period of time as construction continues on a sewer separation project and work begins on a bump-outs.
The bump-outs are part of downtown streetscape improvements.
Mayor Pam Mood says while the sewer project will address a very aging infrastructure issue, the bump outs are a critical part of the downtown’s revitalization plan.
“There will be beautiful changes. We are trying to create a place where people can gather along Main Street with bump outs and trees.”
Mayor Mood says crews are now working on the John Street to Brown Street section.
“They hope to have that total project completed by the end of September and they hope to be off Main Street by the middle of June.”
Mood says there is still plenty of parking in the downtown.
The Brown Street parking lot is accessible from Brown Street and Hawthorn Street.
Sidewalks will still be accessible.
