Premier Stephen McNeil was in Bridgewater this morning to announce upgrades at the South Shore Regional Hospital.
Improvements will be made to the emergency department and endoscopy unit.
The hospital will also see a new 12 seat dialysis unit and the addition of a third elevator.
The Premier says these upgrades will begin to help people on the South Shore immediately.
“We want people to understand this is not an announcement that will sit on the shelf like it has for two separate occasions. This is an important part of delivering health care across the region.”

McNeil says a request for proposals has already been issued for the elevator with work expected to begin in June.
Head of Emergency Dr. Greg McNally looks forward to the improvements.
“Our unit was built with designs of forty years ago almost. New design strategies help alleviate some of that backlog and will help with better efficiencies going forward.”
Upgrades for the E.R. are now at the design phase and are expected to be complete by this fall.
Construction is pegged to start in the fall of 2018.
