New privacy and safety measures are in place at two hospitals in the Tri-Counties.
At Roseway and Digby General Hospitals, the doors leading into the emergency department from the waiting area will be locked.
Visitors will no longer be able to walk from the waiting area into the emergency department without approval from staff who unlock the door.
Nova Scotia Health Authority spokesperson Fraser Mooney says this is consistent with other hospitals in the province.
“We’re looking to standardize the processes and policies to ensure and enhance safety for staff and patients when visiting the emergency department. The hospitals at Roseway and Digby have new security measures in place, similar to what we already have at the Yarmouth Hospital.”
Also in Digby, the door/entrance from outside leading into the emergency department will be locked at all times.
The entrance will be reserved for ambulance, emergency patients and after-hours access only.
