The Town Of Shelburne has approved its operating budget for 2017-2018.
Council approved $4,172,660.
The tax rates will remain the same.
$2.04 per 100 dollars of assessment for residential ratepayers.
The commercial rate stands at $3.86
Mayor Karen Mattatall says the town will have a strategic economic development plan and a tourism and events plan.
It’s not all good news.
Mayor Mattatall says there will be a $19 increase in the sewer charge that will be applied in the fall.
She says it had to be done because the sewage treatment plant is at the end of its life.
“It’s a $2.4 million project. It has to be done. Fortunately we don’t have to borrow all of the money for that but this increase is needed to help support the balance.”
Mattatall says to try and defray the cost they’ve increased the low-income tax relief to $250 and increased the household income threshhold to $30,000.
