Two Yarmouth County communities will soon have improved internet access.
Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill is announcing provincial funding today for high-speed internet projects in Forest Glen and Cedar Lake.
$75,000 will go to the Municipality of Yarmouth for a project that involves installing a multiple frequency broadband internet service tower in Forest Glen.
The Cedar Lake Wireless Cooperative will receive nearly $42,000 for high-speed service from the nearest fibre-op line on Highway 1 in Beaver River to a tower in Cedar Lake, and a second tower in Springdale.
Churchill says this will provide high-speed internet for over 500 homes.
“It’s important to note that this is happening because of individuals in those communities, who organized a plan to bring high-speed to those areas. I’m really happy to have partnered with them to make this happen for Forest Glen and Cedar Lake.”
Churchill says he would be happy to work with other communities in Yarmouth County that do not have high-speed internet.
“I know this is a frustration for many in the county. I expect these dollars to be available in the future for applications. I’m very happy to work with any community that can put a plan together.”
The Liberal government announced $1.44 million for 22 municipal and community high-speed internet projects across the province.
