The General Manager of Nova Scotia’s Emergency Health Services is responding to concerns of longer ambulance wait times in Pubnico.
Last week, Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont put out a release, stating fears of deteriorating services in the area.
d’Entremont said he had heard from the community, including the fire department and those close to the EHS system that the priority of the ambulance base in Pubnico has changed.
Mark Wheatley says residents of Pubnico or any community need not worry.
“I think folks in all communities in the province should take comfort in the fact that we are doing our best on a daily basis to look at data, making sure we strategically locate those ambulances, and make sure everybody gets an ambulance in a timely manor.”
Wheatley says the EHS system looks at where call demand is, and they expand and re-tract the service where required based on historical and live time data.
“We have seen a steady call volume in the Pubnico area for the last number of years, but we have had neighbouring areas with increased call volumes.”
Despite that, he says Pubnico has not had anything taken away.
d’Entremont plans to question Health Minister Leo Glavine on this when the Legislature resumes sitting April 25th.
