Do you have what it takes?
That’s what SHYFT Youth Services is asking as they get ready to host the first ever ‘Homeless for a Night’ fundraiser.
It will take place this Friday from 7pm-Saturday at 7am at Alma Square in downtown Yarmouth.
Participants will camp out for the night.
SHYFT Fundraising Coordinator Shannon Watkins says their aim is to discuss homelessness and raise awareness.
“We’ll have some information posted from mental health, the Tri-County Women’s Centre and Juniper House. We have a lot of great support for this program and fundraiser.”
There will be musical entertainment from Elizabeth Wright and the Sounds of Colour, Crystal Porter, Connie Saulnier and more.
Executive Director Adam Dolliver says it doesn’t matter what the conditions are like, they’ll be there.
“People aren’t just homeless when it’s warm and sunny, they are homeless in the snow and in the rain. It’s one night of being uncomfortable to hopefully raise awareness.”
Proceeds of the event will go the SHYFT House.
