A fundraiser for the Cape Forchu Lightstation will take place this Saturday.
Beacon Church will host a bake sale, silent auction and concert featuring some of Yarmouth’s best talent beginning at 6pm.
Concert organizer Shirley Hubbard says they’ll have music from the Yarmouth Shantymen, Mike Durkee, the Yarmouth Six and more.
“I just hope people will come out, buy a ticket and support the Yarmouth Light, which is very good for all of us.”
At the lighthouse, a new light-keepers workshop is being developed, along with the lens project in the old fog building.
Project Chair Liz Noble says the fog building can’t open until a $30,000 wheelchair ramp is installed.
“So that’s why we’re doing this fundraiser. We’re also going to apply for provincial and federal grants. We are hoping to be able to qualify for that and it will help pay for this ramp.”
They are hoping to be up and running by the end of June.
Tickets for the fundraiser can be purchased in advance or at the door.
