Yarmouth’s mayor says her Task Force on social issues will seek input from the public at some point.
Pam Mood says when she saw how many people were affected by the lack of food security, affordable housing and how many suffer from mental health issues she knew something had to be done.
She says the 14-member team brings together a good cross-section of people.
“everyone from a husband and wife counselling team, we have housing represented, we have a young man who is very experienced in community fund raising, youth is represented, every demographic is there. The faith community is also represented.”
Mayor Mood says the job of the task force initially is to put together a comprehensive list of services that are available.
She says her next step is to do a “call out” to the community.
Mood says while some issues like housing are not the responsibility of municipal governments, the task force will be a strong voice and lobby for people who need help.
