An employment specialist says the boomer shift hasn’t really struck the Yarmouth area yet, but it will.
Statistics Canada defines baby boomers as those born between 1946 and 1965, which means they currently range in age from 50 to 69.
And it also means many are ready or thinking of retiring.
There’s the shift.
Julie Walters with Nova Scotia Works in Yarmouth says employers need to be ready.
She says many she’s spoken with, are not.
“I’ve met with two employers in the past three weeks who have said “No, I’m not in panic mode but if one more person retires or I lose one more person I am in panic mode.”
A job and career fair is being held next month to connect with employers with those seeking work.
It will take place Wednesday April 19 at the NSCC Burridge Campus gym from 3:30pm to 7pm.
The full interview with Julie Walters can be heard this Sunday morning at 9:04 on The Weekender on Y95 CJLS.
