The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners have been eliminated from the MHL playoffs.
Mateo Short scored twice and Ryan Daley added a goal, but the Mariners fell 5-3 tonight in Truro.
The Bearcats win the first round best of seven series in five games.
Daley’s goal tied it at 1 late in the first period, and after Truro took a 2-1 lead in the second period, Short would tie it at 2.
The Bearcats would score the next two, and after Short’s second goal in the third period, they would add an empty netter to seal it.
Truro took the first two games of the series, but the Mariners took Game 3 in the series to make it 2-1.
The Bearcats won a tight checking Game 4 at Mariners Centre last Wednesday.
Looking back, this season started tremendously for Yarmouth, as they won their first 12 games, helping them to a 44 point improvement over last year.
However, the Mariners lost 10 of 11 games to the Bearcats this season including playoffs.
But the future is bright for the team, as many players are expected to return next season.
Five players played their final junior game: Captain and defenseman Ryan Daley, defenseman Alex Mann, forwards Lawrence Lyver and Max Robitaille and goaltender Justin Ritcey.
The Bearcats meanwhile await the winner of Game 7 between the Crushers and Amherst Ramblers in Pictou County on Tuesday.
The Crushers forced a seventh game with a 3-2 overtime win in Amherst tonight.
Also, the Summerside Western Capitals advanced to the second round against Miramichi after a 5-2 win over Dieppe in Game 6.
