As the April 30th deadline approaches, the Canada Revenue Agency has produced six things to avoid this income tax season.
The CRA’s Ann-Marie Jenkins says it’s important to just file your taxes.
“Even if you have no income, you should still file your tax return because you may be eligible for benefits and credits such as the Canada Child Benefit or the GST credit.”

Also, make sure you report all the money you make.
Jenkins says above all, you definitely don’t want to be late filing your taxes.
“Even if you can’t pay your balance owing by the end of filing season – if you file late, you’re going to be charged that extra five percent. So file on time to avoid that late filing penalty.”
Because the deadline falls on a Sunday this year, the CRA will consider your return on time if it is filed or postmarked by midnight, May 1st.
