The mayor of Shelburne hopes the government got the message.
No tolls.
People of Shelburne County had their last week on highway twinning and tolls.
The province presented its feasibility report.
Mayor Karen Mattatall was there.
“There’s no question that the people who attended the meeting, and it was a very good turnout, indicated very clearly that they were not interested in highways being tolled. for many reasons, of course it’s really the only access to Halifax for us. I know they tried to encourage us to think it was all about safety and certainly in some cases twinned highways are safer but when you’re forced to use the roads we have to think about the people that have to travel for services, the cost of consumer goods, the impact it will have on tourism. those things will have a negative impact on the area, in fact all the way around from Bridgewater to Yarmouth.”
Mattatall says she hopes the province listens to what people have had to say.
