The mayor of Yarmouth says she was thrilled to have hosted a regional meeting of the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities.
The event wrapped up Saturday with delegates discussing many issues they all face, from regional economic development to rural Internet service.
Mayor Pam Mood says municipal units in South Western Nova Scotia share common ground.
“From Barrington all the way up to Digby, we get together a couple of times a year and discuss issues that are local in nature. It’s a great chance to get together and network. The idea is not that we lobby for each individual unit, but that we do what’s best for the entire province.”
UNSM president Laurie Murley, the deputy mayor of Windsor, says the organization is doing a good job representing smaller towns and municipalities on the provincial front.
“With our new resolutions process, we’re able to streamline what’s important to municipalities. We talk to the province and get them to really listen.”
