March Break is here, and it’s a popular time for families to go on vacation.
Nova Scotia RCMP say March Break can offer ‘crimes of opportunity’ when residents are away from their homes.
Cpl. Dal Hutchinson says there are a number of things that can be done to prevent burglaries.
“One of the most important things is having someone check on your property while you’re away. Use of timers are a great thing as well, having lights on in your home when you’re not there at night, and making sure if you receive mail and newspapers to your door, make sure they’re picked up on a regular basis.”
Hutchinson says it can be tempting to post where you’re going on social media, but it might be wise to save the uploads for when you return from your trip, as a would-be robber could learn you’re away from home.
He says they often see an increase in crimes like mischief and thefts this time of year.
