An organization in memory of a Yarmouth teen will give back to underprivileged kids.
The J-Strong Fund will help pay registration and other fees for kids wanting to enter sports.
J-Strong and the associated number 65 are in honour of Jadon Robinson, who passed away in November 2015.
He was a standout in Yarmouth sports and as a football player with Sir John A. MacDonald.
Jadon’s sister, Marla Robinson-Pyne says J-Strong isn’t just about raising money, it’s about remembering Jadon and finding hope.
“This is an example to all of us that out of much darkness, we can find light. No matter how much you struggle sometimes, there is always a hand to help you up.”
Steve Berry, a student support worker at Yarmouth High was a mentor and friend of Jadon’s, and was pivotal in starting the fund.
Berry says every kid should have an opportunity to play sports.
“I really hope that a lot of kids get to access sports and through that become quality human beings. When you’re doing something you love, it doesn’t seem like work. It’s been a great experience to be a part of.”
J-Strong has held a number of fundraisers including lobball and golf tournaments, and those events will return this year.
The organization has raised over $50,000 so far, including a recent $12,000 donation from the 100+ Guys Who Share of Yarmouth County.
