The next generation of Nova Scotian musicians are getting some help from an old hand.
Five-time East Coast Music Award winner Charlie A’Court has established a scholarship to go to a student entering a post-secondary music program.
The $500 award will be called the “Charlie A’Court Scholarship for Excellence in Music.”
A’Court says he’s been fortunate in his life and wanted to pay it forward.
“After looking back over the last twenty years of my career so far, I felt it was just a great time in my life where I could start investing in future music talent the way investments had been made into my career.”
A’Court says the first award will be presented to a student from Cobequid Educational Centre.
That is the school he graduated from twenty years ago.
“I attributed it all back to the experience that I had in high school and how extra-curricular activity on top of taking music in class – how much that truly enriched my life and put me on the path that I’m on today.”
After that, the award will be open to anyone in the province in 2017-2018.
