The ‘Fundy Rose’ returned recently from the Dentons Shipyard in Charleston, South Carolina.
Mark MacDonald says the company has added some additional sailings to accommodate commercial users.
He says they typically draw back in February and March to a base schedule of one round trip a day.
“But we sometimes find ourselves in the position, due to market demand, of where we will occasionally add a sailing in to prevent backlogs and just make sure we’re moving the traffic so we’ve had to do that a couple of times in the period since the ship has been back.”
MacDonald says they’re always happy to do that when the demand is there although they are always balancing the cost of that with the revenue produced.
He says the Fundy Rose brings in a lot of business and has done well since it came into service a couple of years ago.
MacDonald says it carries many visitors between the two provinces.
“The customers are from all over, not just domestic, they’re from all different markets, so we’re pleased with how that’s developed. We feel that when we get people moving that it helps the economy move.”
MacDonald laughs when he says “We’ll get them on one of those ferry services one way or the other.”
The Cat ferry will begin its run between Yarmouth and Portland May 31.
