The curator of the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives is excited about a new endowment fund.
The MuseFund was launched by the Association of Nova Scotia Museums.
It’s designed to help community museums become sustainable in the future.
It can be used for emergencies like roof repairs.
Nadine Gates says it’s great news.
“It’s very important. Government funding, although we’ve been very fortunate many years to receive funding from the federal government and through the Canadian Museum Assistance Program, the amount of money that the program receives has not changed in many years.”
Gates says she expects the fund to be available to accredited museums by next year.
Museums must first go through an accreditation process and once qualified, can apply for funding.
It’s just getting started so I don’t see it happening within this first year, probably by next year there’ll be small amounts of money we can apply for. But we’re fortunate here that we have the Yarmouth Community Fund that we can apply for.”
