There may be some movement on finalizing a location for a new arts centre in Yarmouth.
This, after Yarmouth town council and members of the board of directors of the YARC met yesterday.
The two groups have long been polarized in their positions, with the town saying a new arts centre must go downtown and the YARC wanting it on Parade Street where the centre is now.
YARC president Mitch Bonnar says while they have always had a preference for Parade Street, it was never cast in stone.
“Th’Yarc has always said that they’re willing to look at another location if there’s something available. That’s what they’re looking at right now. They (Town of Yarmouth) wants it downtown and we’ll see where it goes. There’s a lot of work to be done, there’s a lot of people sitting around the table, a lot of ideas. At least we’re sitting down talking.”
Mayor Pam Mood felt there was common ground reached at yesterday’s meeting.
“We had some great positive discussions and we’ll get together in the next couple of weeks and continue these discussions. There was certainly common ground. We don’t want to waste any time with this, neither Th’Yarc nor the council, we want to move forward with this as quickly as possible.”
