Today is National Flag Day of Canada.
It marks the first time the Canadian flag was flown at Parliament Hill on February 15th, 1965.
In Yarmouth County, the occasion was marked at the Municipal office in Hebron this afternoon with a flag raising.
The national anthem, town crier and local dignitaries were featured during the ceremony.
Yarmouth Warden Leland Anthony says our flag is instantly recognizable around the world.
“We are proud to be Canadians, and proud of our flag. We need to be thankful that we can stand here today in this relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of camaraderie, friendship and loving of each and every one of us as Canadians.”
Yarmouth Mayor Pam Mood shared what the Canadian flag means to her.
“All the places in this world where such ugly things are happening, and we are a safe haven. Our flag says we’re safe and accepting, and that you are welcome here from all over the world.”
