Shelburne’s mayor wants to find out what’s behind the latest Census figures.
2016 stats show an increase in the town’s population of 3.4 per cent over 2011.
That year the town had 1,686 residents.
The latest tally pegs Shelburne’s population at 1,743.
Mayor Karen Mattatal says while it’s a small increase, it’s still an increase.
“Certainly a trend I’ve seen over the last while is young families. That’s positive. We certainly have some people who have come here to retire
and that’s great. But young families have children …they’re working.”
Mattatall says the council now must determine the reasons why people have chosen to move to Shelburne.
