There is concern in Shelburne with potential tolls being considered for Highway 103.
Staff with the Department of Transportation and CBCL Limited will consult the public on the feasibility of twinning almost 70 kilometres of highway between Tantallon and Bridgewater.
Town of Shelburne Mayor Karen Mattatall says anyone living south of Bridgewater will be negatively affected.
She feels costs will go up if truckers have to pay tolls.
“If they’re having to pay a toll, the cost of going to the store and buying the product they have brought is going to have to increase. It’s a struggle now for people to pay for milk, bread and things they need every day.”
The proposed toll cost is between $4.08 and $6.81.
Mattatall says it’s unacceptable no highway twinning consultations will be held in Queens, Shelburne or Yarmouth counties.
Meetings are scheduled Tuesday night at the Best Western Plus in Cookville and Wednesday night at Atlantica Oak Island Resort in Western Shore from 6:30 until 8:30.
