The Nova Scotia Liberals are on the wrong road, according to the province’s NDP Leader.
Gary Burrill says the austerity approach of the McNeil government isn’t working for Nova Scotians.
Burrill says numerous studies and economists from around the world agree that balancing a budget by cutting programs actually hurts the economy.
“The time for withdrawing the government is really passed. What the government needs to do is make serious investments in opening up opportunities for people and that this is also the best direction for the economy.”
Burrill says the difficulty the McNeil government has had negotiating contracts with teachers, nurses and its public sector workers have also tarnished their record.
“The golden glow around the Liberal brand that has attached itself to the McNeil Liberal enterprise is quickly disattaching itself now. I don’t hear anyone speaking of the present government with warmth and affection.”
Burrill says the Liberals attempt to balance the budget at the expense of those who can least afford it will come back to bite them when the election is called.
