The cold wind didn’t damper enthusiasm at a event in front of Yarmouth town hall.
Men, women and children showed up to support women’s rights and important role they play in society.

It was organized by Caitlin Buchanan who was angered by a recent executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump taking away all funding
from international health organizations who either discuss or give safe abortion practices for women.
Buchanan began the rally by speaking to the crowd.
“When we take safe abortion practices away from women it doesn’t prevent abortions from happening it just increases the mortality rates of both women and infants.”
Brenda Tate , one of the women who attended today’s rally didn’t plan to speak but felt she had to.
“When my mother, and my birth mother too were born, women in Canada didn’t have the right to vote. We stand on mighty big shoulders here and I’m proud to be standing on those shoulders and I thank them.”
Shannon Hardy, the founder of Maritime Abortion Support Services, told the rally it’s important to remember that Canada doesn’t send any money to international development for safe abortion services.
“All the money we send is strictly for family planning. So before we get on the “we hate Trump band wagon”, let’s remember that we need to stick it to our politicians.”
Hardy said 11 million women die because of the lack of post-abortion care.
