Work-to-rule (WTR) job action by the Nova Scotia Teachers Union is being phased out this week.
This comes after a tentative deal for a new contract was reached with the province last Friday.
But will activities return to normal?
Yarmouth NSTU President Rollie Hannem says WTR has educated teachers on their requirements.
“Some have really appreciated the family time that they’ve been able to get by not doing some of those things. The health and welfare of a teacher
isn’t just going to benefit that teacher, it’s going to benefit every student in that class.”
Hannem says students have supported teachers through this.
Details of the contract were released to teachers earlier this week, and a vote is expected February 8th.
Hannem says he’s heard both positive and negative feedback on the deal.
“In the Tri-County area, we may have different issues than they do in Cape Breton. So, as each one of those 9,300 members look at this agreement, they look at it as what’s happening in their classroom, their school and their community.”
He says it’s too early to tell which way the vote will swing.
