A ‘big cat’ was spotted in Clyde River over the weekend.
On Sunday, Adam Shand posted a video of the encounter to his Facebook page.
Shand was in his vehicle as the animal nervously walked by.
Shand says he’s posted the video to a few hunting sites, and the general opinion is that the animal was a lynx.
The District Supervisor of the Department of Natural Resources for Shelburne County says it also may have been a bobcat.
Brian Comeau says bobcats are common in Southwestern Nova Scotia.
“They’re elusive. They don’t like people. They don’t like to be in view. But this time of year they are hunting for mice and rabbits along roads, and the mice population is high. I think the population of bobcats is doing quite well.”
Comeau adds that lynx are becoming endangered and are not often seen in this area.
He says if you encounter an animal like this, make yourself look big and walk away.
