A public hearing will take place soon on a potential outdoor theatre in Yarmouth.
The portable open air cinema would be based at 5 Hardscratch Road, but is also portable.
The town’s Planning Advisory Committee says the use of equipment and a concession stand would require a special occasion permit at the time, but a change in the definition of what the permit allots would have to be made.
Mayor Pam Mood says she’s seen similar set-ups in other communities.
“Just blow up a giant screen, you’ve got the projectors that are so high-definition these days, it’s like you’re in a real theatre. People would basically
pull up their lawn chairs in a field or a parking lot or Main Street, if we shut Main Street down. It’s another place for people to gather, another thing for families to do.”
Mood says she supports the project one hundred per cent.
The applicant has also requested that the concession stands be permitted for use at other events.
