Yarmouth town council voted last night to allow the Yarmouth and Area Industrial Commission to seek a contract for demolition.
A meeting was held recently with the three municipal units, who share ownership in the building along with the YAIC.
The middle section of the 130 year old structure located on the harbour side is the area in question.
Some of the building has been condemned due to extensive roof damage.
Mayor Pam Mood says demolition is the best option.
:”There’s just a lot of damage inside that building, a lot of other things, issues, so we feel that’s the best way forward.”

Mood says there is a lot of potential for future use of that site, but this process needs to be dealt with first.
Mood says the final decision rests with the YAIC.
