Winter is here and that has a lot of students looking forward to snow days.
As Operations Coordinator with South Shore Regional School Board, Denise Crouse is responsible for making decisions around when buses move to a back road plan.
Crouse knows how disruptive a change in routine can be for families.
“We like to give parents as much notice as we possibly can. So at six o’clock in the morning the information is broadcast out through Facebook, Twitter, radio [and] our website.”
She says changing bus schedules is never done lightly.
“Sometimes we just cannot operate on our backroads, however we can on the pavement. Rather than keep children home we have alternate arrangements in back road closure plans.”
Crouse and her team also assess road conditions to help the superintendent determine when to close schools.
She says whether it’s a route change or a school closure, student safety is the top priority.
