A fisherman who fell overboard off Shelburne County yesterday has died.
RCMP Cpl. Andrew Joyce has confirmed that “a 44-year old man from the Shelburne area died at the scene.”
Captain Liam Mather, a public affairs officer with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, says they were notified of a
situation involving the fishing vessel ‘Secret Sea’ around 5pm Saturday.
“The crew administered first aid aboard the vessel.”
Captain Mather said the Canadian Coast Guard vessel ‘Clark’s Harbour’ escorted the boat to West Head.
The vessel was approximately 25 nautical miles south east of Cape Sable Island at the time.
The investigation will be led by the Department of Labour as it is being considered an industrial accident.
