It appears talks between government and the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union have reached an impasse.
NSGEU released a statement last night.
In it, president Jason MacLean says the two sides are far apart in negotiations and they’re now filing for conciliation.
In December, 94% of NSGEU members rejected government’s final offer of a four year deal that would see no wage increases in the first two years, 1% in the third, 1.5% in the fourth and a half percent increase on the last day of the contract.
The offer would also freeze the public service award for current members while any new members wouldn’t receive it at all.
Because of the nature of the work the 7300 NSGEU civil servants provide, they’re not allowed to go on strike.
So if concilation talks fail, the two parties would go to arbitration.
