No word yet on whether we’ll see a provincial election this year.
The premier was responding to questions around an election call yesterday.
Premier Stephen McNeil says while he doesn’t have a date in mind, he wants to be ready.
“I’ve been preparing for an election the day after I was elected Premier. We’re ongoing, the nomination processes are happening and all of that stuff, I think all of the parties are doing that. But we still have some work to do.”
The McNeil government is three years into their five year term.
He says while they are getting prepared, there is no set date in mind.
“We’re in a four year cycle. This is 2017. At some point in October will be my fourth year of being premier. Obviously it’s something we will put our minds to. Whether it is called in 2017 is yet to be determined.”
And with contracts still to be negotiated with teachers, nurses and government employees, there’s lots to do before an election has to be called in October 2018.
