There have been no talks between the teachers union and the province since before Christmas.
There’s no indication when the two sides will be sitting across from each other.
For teachers, the main issues are increased workload and working conditions in classrooms.
They also want wages increased to reflect the higher cost of living.
NSTU president Liette Doucet says they just want to get back to the table.
‘Right now we are waiting to hear from the conciliator. The conciliator is the one who will set dates. He has to go back and forth to both parties to run dates by us to make sure we’re available. That’s what we’re waiting on right now.
Doucet says she’s hopeful the province is willing to negotiate a deal.
She was asked what takes place if that doesn’t happen.
“Well, if that doesn’t happen, we have to sit down and have some serious discussion with our (negotiating) team and our provincial executive and look at what our next steps will be.”
She says “hopefully those next steps will be actual bargaining at the table and an agreement.”
