A local man’s book has garnered the attention of a national celebrity.
Christopher Michael Meuse of Little Brook, Digby County wrote ‘Hockey, Kids & Positive Coaching,’ a story about how a young boy’s love for the game is affected by the pressures placed on him by adults in his life.
Meuse says he wanted to use Don Cherry’s name in his book, and sent him a fax asking permission.
Cherry initially refused, but his mind changed after seeing a copy of the story.
“After that I received a package in the mail from him with a long letter saying how much enjoyed the story. He said if I wanted, I could include a story from his life that would express the same sort of feelings that I was trying to express.”
The retired teacher says the 60 page book is targeted towards adults who work with children.
Meuse says he never intended to become a writer, but it was one of a few goals he set out for himself.
Meuse says it’s important for kids to play, have fun and be treated positively.
He wrote the first version in the 90s but changed the title and illustrations and added an extra chapter for re-publishing earlier this year.
