A buoyant economy and positive outlook which attracted two developers to Yarmouth, is keeping them here.
Mandy Rennehan was born in Yarmouth, the daughter of a lobster fisherman.
At 18 she moved away to hone her building construction and maintenance skills.
Mandy Rennehan brought her company Freshco, to Yarmouth a couple of years ago after a visit home.
She she saw the overall decline in the town after the provincial government ended ferry service to New England.
But Rennehan also saw hope.
She says she knew the ferry link would ultimately be restored and she saw opportunity on the horizon and bought several
abandoned properties including a run down building on Moody’s Corner in Yarmouth’s south.
“I wanted to give Yarmouth south some pride back, give the corner some personality back. It’s an area of town that,
in my opinion, has let to go to a place that’s not right. It’s a part of Yarmouth. It’s where we all grew up.”
Rennehan says she’s seen a complete change in the attitude and outlook of Yarmouthians.
Interior design specialist Dustin DuPrat is a designer and building-renovation specialist.
He and his wife came from Vermont, inspired by Rennehan and Yarmouth’s renaissance.
“That’s the biggest reason I was excited about it….because it was bringing the heritage back to those buildings, paying respect
to what they were to what Moody’s Corner once was. It was really the right thing to do regardless of the coast, regardless of the time.”
Their new company, RennDuPrat has purchased more properties to develop that were likely destined for the wrecking ball.
