The Yarmouth and Area Industrial Commission will seek direction from the three Yarmouth County councils
on the future of a section of the former Dominion Textile building on Water Street.
It’s the middle part of the building located on the harbour side that is in question.
The structure is nearly 130 years old and part of it is condemned due in part to extensive roof damage.
Phil Mooney is the new chair of the Industrial Commission which has representatives from the town of Yarmouth and the
municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle.
He says the Industrial Commission isn’t the only player.
“There is three other owners involved even though we are the largest owner.”
Mooney says the commission had its first meeting since the October election recently.
‘We made a decision that night to go back to the three respective councils because we’re all joint owners, Argyle, the municipality and the town,
and bring the three options back to their respective councils then come back the first of the year to see what direction the councils want to go in.”
Mooney says the three options deal with how to proceed with demolition and where to build retaining walls.
