A new bridge connecting a multi-use trail in Barrington is in place.
However, it is not quite ready for use.
The Woodland Multi-Use Trail Association and the Shelburne ATV Club plan to hold a work party as soon as possible to complete the work that needs to be done to make the bridge usable.
Until then, the groups ask residents to stay off the bridge.
They want to have it ready by Christmas.
Barrington Warden Eddie Nickerson says council got a project update last week.
“They do have some topping to put on it, and they were waiting for some better weather to do that. I can imagine it is a priority to have the bridge ready as soon as possible.”
Nickerson says the bridge will help enhance the commercial district of Barrington Passage.
“People from the other end of the county will be able to cross the bridge into the passage, and it will support and enhance our businesses in that area. That bridge has been out for some time to bring people from east to west.”
The bridge runs across the Barrington River.
The municipality has put around $30,000 into the multi-use trail over the past few years.
Nickerson says the trail is enjoyed by many people, and with this bridge it will continue to provide benefits for the area.
