Argyle municipal council is working to get a program in place that would help residents access money for
clean energy and water improvement projects on their properties.
Recently the provincial government amended the Municipal Government Act to allow municipalities to lend
money to homeowners for things including the supply and storage of water on private properties.
The homeowners would repay the money through their taxes either monthly or annually.
Warden Richard Donaldson says they want to move quickly on this.
“We have a first draft of a by-law in place. it will be coming back to us in January. We just got this in late fall and it takes time to sort this out.”
The PACE program is currently being used by seven units including the municipalities of Shelburne and
Digby.
Efficiency Nova Scotia Program Manager Kaelen Keys gave a presentation to Argyle councillors Tuesday evening.
” One of the benefits to the homeowner is that it’s a loan against the property so they don’t have to seek out a personal loan. and if they later decide to sell their property before the loan is paid off, they’re able to transfer that loan to the person who buts the property.”
