The calls for the education minister to resign are getting louder.
PC Leader Jamie Baillie said yesterday that Minister Karen Casey should resign after locking children out of school Monday.
He says negotiations between Casey’s department and the Nova Scotia Teachers Union have been badly handled and a change is needed.
“The only way forward now is through a sincere effort to work with teachers to make classrooms better. That cannot happen with this minister, she needs to go.”
The onus is now on Premier Stephen McNeil to do the right thing and remove his Education Minister immediately. Casey must be fired. #nspoli https://t.co/P3VGCI0MkN

Baillie says government’s assertions that schools were cancelled to ensure student safety were a lie.
He says government isn’t showing leadership by locking children out of schools.
“Our school system is in crisis. One hundred and thirty thousand families had no place to send their kid to school today because their premier closed the schools down, locked their kids out. He should be here to answer for this.
Baillie says the government decided to play politics with students after it was shown student safety was never an issue.
He has started on online petition where Nova Scotians can support his calls for Casey’s resignation.
Meanwhile, Karen Casey says she has no intention of resigning.
“I believe that we have handled the education file very effectively in this province. We have invested money in the education of our students in our classrooms every year for the last three consecutive budgets.”
Casey couldn’t say whether the Premier has confidence in her to continue her role as minister.
