Students around the province walked out of classes today.
They were marching to support teachers in their negotiations with the province.

Nova Scotia’s Education Minister Karen Casey doesn’t agree with the student’s actions.
“It’s very disappointing. Students should be in their class and teachers should be in the class with them.”
Casey says students should be in school.
“The teachers are not in a work-to-rule. They are in their classrooms. They are giving instruction and the students should be there with them.”
South Shore Regional School Board superintendent Scott Milner understands the students desire to support teachers but says a walkout is not the way to do that.
“First of all, I will support student expression, I do not support the walk out. There are other ways to express their support for teachers.”
He feels a walk-out is not the most effective way to be heard.
“They certainly used, basically social media to organize this. They can use social media to express their opinion about this as well, without disrupting their class.”
Teachers are still trying to negotiate a new contract with the province.
The teachers union says they will begin work-to-rule job action Monday.
