The future of education could be affected by Monday’s job action by the province’s teachers.
Student teachers are required to spend a number of hours being supervised in the classroom to complete their training.
With teachers going to a work to rule situation, they won’t be providing that supervision.
Zach Stephen is in the Bachelor of Education program at Acadia university.
And he says while it is frustrating, student teachers stand behind the NSTU’s position.
“We just want to support the teachers and let them know that, yeah, we’re not happy that we’re missing this time but we understand and we’re not cranky about it.”
He says student teachers understand and support the teacher’s actions.
“The stance the union is taking right now is to fight for a contract that will affect people in my position a lot more than many people currently teaching.”
Stephen hopes the short term pain will lead to a better education system for everyone.
