Fishermen can start hauling their pots after midnight.
For safety there are a number of vessels and aircraft in the area.
Three Canadian Coast Guard cutters, West Port, Clark’s Harbour and Sambro are on the water.
Two large vessels are offshore for search and rescue.
A Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules airplane have also been assigned to the area.
It has been said many times that the lobster fishery is the backbone of the region’s economy.
DFO statistics indicate the combined landed value for the lobster fishery in LFAs 33 and 34 for the 2015-16 season was just over
$573 million.
That’s an increase of more than $179 million from the previous year.
Approximately 39 million kilograms of lobster was landed in the two districts, an increase of approximately nine million kilograms.
In LFA 34, the preliminary landed value for the 2015 -16 season was $423,764,421 with 28,942,761 kilograms landed.
That compares to a landed value of $303,871,936 in 2014-2015, translating to over 24 million kilograms harvested.
In LFA 33, just over 10 million kg of lobster was caught in 2015-16, with a preliminary landed value of $149,614,317; more than double the preliminary landed value for the 2013-14 season.
For the 2014-15 season, the landed value was $93,836,719 with 7 million kilograms landed.
In 2013-14, the landed value in LFA 33 was $69,251, 164, with nearly 6 million kilograms hauled.
